A lot of things are easier to sit through with attractive character designs. Mushoku Tensei pretty quickly violated basic decency, but man if that show isn't pretty.

I'm referring to the "Show is COOKED" attitude you've expressed. These shows aren't made to generate popularity, they're here to fill up the HBO catalogue. And they're so cheap to make that nobody cares how successful or failed it is. Every show is a sunk cost, after all.
