Favorite Electronic Music Sub-Genres + Song Recs

Recommended Posts

I'm a fan of synthwave and chiptunes, because they officially make up the soundtrack for 80s nostalgia.

Demoscene Time Machine's "Stalwart," which was also an [adult swim] game:

Here is Nina with "Sleepwalking," which is straight out of 1987 and I love it.

TWRP in general has that same electronic rock/funk style that Daft Punk has, and when you add Ninja Sex Party it makes magic.

Chiptune can be a gateway to other genres imo 😂 I mean video games is a good part of why I got into electronic tunes in the first place.

Ooooo.  Electronica is my favorite subject.

I'm loving chill and deep house right now.

Tycho is a master of building around a single instrument....

So nice and chill.  I love listening for all the little sounds an artist adds to the song without it getting bogged down or too heavy - for just the right vibe. :D

Not sure what genre this would fall under, but I am really digging all the percussion in this:

Damn, can't believe I never added A Tribe Called Red to my weird shit thread. Saw them some time last year, and yeah. Who'd've thunk? Native American dubstep. As a recent comment so eloquently articulated my thoughts: "Ah, my favorite genre: wtf" (they're not really my jam, but I'm still entertained by the strange)

For chiptunes, I think you can't go wrong with some BGC. Honestly I almost feel kinda spoiled, cuz I can't really find any others that really give me the same vibe.

I think I really do want to add some synthwave to my collection, tho. I just stumbled on this, and it seems like it fits my style maybe.

I kinda want the devs to just scrap all the work they've already done on the remake, and start over with this. Make the game all 80's-futuristic, neon vaporwave cybersynth. I could seriously see this actually working.

i'm looking for a song.

i can not recall the actual name. i thought it was dance of the bumblebee (not flight) but it is not, and anything with that in the title is wrong.

it was completely electronic, made prior to 1990. probably in the 80's, but not for sure.

i'm almost positive it has 'bees' in the title somewhere.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

during my travels of seeking out the song i'm looking for,

ran across and old favorite.

Didn't know this was a genre.  Why not?

Gettin back into some dnb, but from the 90s.  I appreciate this style more than the "pop"-like songs I come across via Hospital Records for recent artists.

This is the Synthwave genre. They're a duo who used to be in a Metal band, this is what they came up with. You can hear the original elements of metal.
