Toonami Ratings Thread 2.0

The real question is: can gen:LOCK do any better than this?

And we still don't know what's coming at Midnight on July 20th to replace SAO-A...

You need some of the actors advertising it on their social media.  That MIGHT help.  Key word might.

Because of the actors, I have a strange feeling lately that this MIGHT actually get on as the first show on the block. Emphasis on "MIGHT".

That would be ONE way to handle the issue that the first episode will have an irregular run time. Toss on an episode of a 15-minute show between Dragon Ball Super's encore and Rick & Morty (beginning at 9:15), follow that by a Family Guy or two, and begin Toonami with gen:LOCK's first episode at either 10:15 or 10:45. The rest of the shows would air at the top or bottom of the hour as normal, but at this point, I'm not really sure that matters anymore.

Jesus Christ almighty... I knew it'd be bad, but not this bad. 😫

So how long until MHA is put back at the start of the schedule?

Depends if this is a ratings issue or a “Fucking FUNimation is stiffing is by going with Hulu” issue.

As bad as Toonami did, its best show Dragon Ball Super won the night, and it stayed at 0.09 or higher in 18-49 throughout its run. That's good enough to remain over 100K viewers. After Toonami? Good God, those numbers are awful! If Toonami could take over the rest of the night with reruns again, it probably should. Then again, if [as] originals are cheaper, that would make a difference.

I wonder how long until Warner execs step in and demand this nonsense end. They didn't buy Turner's entertainment channels as a tax write-down, that's CNN's job.

Family Guy just isn't drawing like it used to. It's still growth-positive, but I think it's clear that [as] needs a new hit that's greater than Rick & Morty. This happened on Friday:

Granted, that's better than most of Toonami, but it's still not anywhere close to what Friday used to be able to do.

Back to Toonami (and the Dragon Ball power hour) in key demos: the "power hour" did so unbelievably shitty in both 18-49 and 25-54 that it made Toonami look pretty good by comparison! And while this is once again dead-last block average for the year, it's NOT dead last of all time, unlike the total viewers average. The two marathon nights from last fall actually did worse on average.

I don't believe it.  Even at 3:30 AM, MHA got a 30% increase in viewers from GUNDAM Origins! 😭😮❤️  Clearly the ratings have become level enough after Dragonball Super to convince the team that timeslots no longer matter, which is why they put two Toonami premieres at the end of the night. Food Wars opened a tepid flavor at 155K, though the dub is available online anytime.  I'm still upset that we're in the time of the year where we break record low numbers consistently.

[as] as a whole network needs to freshen up.

Their recent original programming is largely garbage. T&E pretty well killed off their audience, and the Fox leftovers are running stale. They have Rick and Morty, Mike Tyson Mysteries and what else?

Bahahaha 50 percent retention for AOT.

People always act all shocked when I say the AOT hype is completely gone. But seriously, it's gone.

MHA beat the 6 shows before it. SIX. Nice move morons.

Foodwars beat one show... Gundam. And by a whopping 1k. And was 4 slots ahead of it. I thought I was lowballing with a guess of 325 but... I needed to divide by 2... and then take off another few K's =P

Lupin is still ratings poison.

So as I was saying all week... this is the lineup that will kill Toonami. As soon as DBS is gone Toonami is finished.

I think that's when Demon Slayer comes in to "save" us. We can only hope.

I have a feeling sometime in 2020 right before AOT comes back for its final season, this episode will rerun, and it will do better. Or at least that's what I'd say if it were 2012. Now though? Traditional TV is declining fast and streaming is king. I'm really not sure what the future holds for Toonami, but hopefully it at least hangs on to the traditional cable/satellite media long enough to finish Naruto Shippuden in 2024, even if Nielsen ratings are completely dead by then.

Just in case you were wondering how Sunday is doing from 8 PM-3 AM, well, it's doing better, but it's not that great.

At least Dragon Ball Super beat Friends at 11 PM, but NAN kicked Toonami's ass hard from there. I think Toonami needs a 2nd weeknight block as an experiment, maybe just for an hour after Final Space on Monday nights at Midnight.

At least Dragon Ball Super beat Friends at 11 PM, but NAN kicked Toonami's ass hard from there. I think Toonami needs a 2nd weeknight block as an experiment, maybe just for an hour after Final Space on Monday nights at Midnight.

Well Demon Slayer has some stuff going for it... but it's not really the hit of the season or anything.

You can only air 10 shows. At least 2 of them need to be big hits.. as in the top anime of the last few seasons. MOB2, OPM2, Shield Hero, Slime.. ya know?

If we're at the point where the best we can do is Lupin, Gundam and Foodwars then it's time to call it quits.

It doesn’t matter how big your show is, if you air it a year after the fact, edited down, people will watch elsewhere.  Good example - Fire Force seems pretty cool one episode in.  If it takes 18 months to air it on Toonami, no one will care because they saw it.

New shows would help, but you could run Fairytail from 2009 and beat most of the junk they're airing now.

Bahahaha 50 percent retention for AOT.

People always act all shocked when I say the AOT hype is completely gone. But seriously, it's gone.

Nah, it ain't a hit like season 1 was but most of the fandom are pretty much shifted to the manga/streaming train.

Not much of a reason to watch on a block airing the dub weeks later than the sub.

Jose Argumedo, who is a frequent podcaster of Toonami Faithful and works as an employee in a division under Warnermedia, has assured us that they are serious about respecting anime in its forthcoming services and on TV.  So it seems that even wit the rating on Toonami, anime is here to stay for now.

At what point did Jingai become the stereotype of a grumpy old man?

At the point when I spent 3 hours driving through traffic because the Gov. wanted to re-enact "Hoosiers" to kick off his re-election campaign....

(It should have taken me an hour and a half to two hours depending. )

Also, I'm right.

Always.

Gov. Holcomb of Indiana.

He isn't running for President, just re-election as Governor of the great State of Indiana.

TV execs can cancel Toonami at any second if they feel like it. They have zero respect for anything and don't care if people get upset.

I'm willing to bet Toonami did better this week. I don't know if Food Wars and Gundam: The Origin cracked 200K for the first time, but I'm willing to bet they improved!

I trust Jose. He's responsible for getting Lupin on the block!

This series

ATM-Tanked-Season-6.jpg

15 seasons before it was axed for no damn reason

So was it still doing well in the ratings? Mythbusters was a similar case, but it didn't do well at ALL its last 3 seasons where it aired on prime time Saturdays instead of its old hit Wednesday night timeslot!

Battlebots is doing extremely well these days on Fridays!

Last time I checked its ratings in December it was at 950k

Actually, NO! All shows improved MARKEDLY, and all eligible shows made the Top 50 (Top 40 at that!):

Final-Cable-2019-Jul-13.SAT_.png

You wanted growth? You got it; in total viewers:

Show Improvement
DBS 117.39%
AOT 168.42%
SAO 160.89%
LupinIII 202.42%
Fd Wars 221.94%
Gundam 166.88%

And we don't know hard numbers for 18-49 yet, but from what we DO know, Lupin III Part 5 and Food Wars! effectively DOUBLED their audience, while the other 4 known shows increased less, but still pretty markedly. Finally, Gundam's 0.11 in 18-34 (~75K, the occupancy of Legion Field) LOOKS pretty rough, but if you'll recall, on June 22nd the entire Midnight hour was that low, and Lupin may have been as well the following 2 weeks, but we don't know since it failed to make the Top 50. So 75K is DAMN good for 3 AM, and with Gundam moving up to 1 AM, it seems it will only improve from here!

Seee!??? I KNEW it was the holiday weekend that did it! I knew it!

It may be that the ratings are now low enough for the decreases from a usual holiday weekend to not matter anymore, which is why we've been seeing less of them than usual. And coincidentally, that must be why certain people are complaining even more than usual, as they've lost their most important vice.

"DRAGON BALL at 0.32 and 0.13/262K & 0.13/240K, compared to last week’s 0.25 and 0.07/172K & 0.06/156K, ATTACK ON TITAN up 0.11 to 0.23, SWORD ART ONLINE up 0.07 to 0.20, LUPIN THE 3RD up 0.09 to 0.18, FOOD WARS up 0.09 to 0.18, BLACK CLOVER up 0.08 to 0.19/354K, BORUTO up 0.08 to 0.19/312K, NARUTO up 0.06 to 0.15/286K, MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM up 0.05 to 0.14, MY HERO ACADEMIA up 0.05 to 0.14/323K, and GEMUSETTO MACHU PICCHU up 0.03 to 0.10/202K."

Gundam once again lowest Toonami show in total viewers, but tied with MHA in Adults 18-49.

I guess the rubber bed sheets helped?

Those key demo share numbers looked real good, I must admit that. I think that the total audience is just so splintered anymore that the total view numbers are going to be lower going forward, while those demo share percentages (the green shading) is what is going to be more and more critical to success.

Food Wars is still a fail though. Total fail. 🤡😛

Is this Gundam show a fail? I'll bet it would have done better than Food Wars had it been premiered at 1 AM instead! The recent talk of it moving to 1 has been baffling, but I'm sure they saw something in it that caused them to at least consider it?

Anyway, PI STILL hasn't released their report, so we don't know if Gundam or MHA had the lowest 18-49 ratings for the night, but we DO know this:

7/13/19 - Total Viewers
Show Viewers Retention
DBZ Kai 262,000
DBS (R)  240,000 91.60%

DBS (P) 621,000 #DIV/0!
AOTS3P2 448,000 72.14%
SAO3 399,000 89.06%
LupinPt5 334,000 83.71%
FoodWars! 344,000 102.99%
B. Clover 354,000 102.91%
Boruto 312,000 88.14%
Shippuden 286,000 91.67%
Gundam 257,000 89.86%
MHA 323,000 125.68%
AVERAGE 367,800 19th of 28 😅

Also, 450K for Food Wars? After a rerun episode of AOT!? C'mon, man! Won't crack 400K...

It probably had to do with the usual complaining from Toonamites. If it saved JoJo's from going way down, it could do the same for Gundam. Maybe they're still deciding on it.

[2000th post, LOL]
