Sadly, even Goblin Slayer can't help.

Wait, it actually might help, but DeMarco won't get it. Instead we're going to get Jojo's Bizarre Adventures: Golden Shower and we'll like it or else; because threatening your audience is always the best way to connect with them.

How is that in any way a negative? I would gladly take EVERY TIME I CLOSE MY EYES I WAKE UP FEELING SO HORNY over BATHE IN SORROW MY TOMORROW IS BUILT UPON YOUR FLESH.

Food wars now =P

Btw Owl what is that 317 you put next to the title of the AOT thread?

That's just shorthand for season 3, episode 17. I do the same thing for MHA or any other multi-season show, with the exception of SAO: Alicization, since each of SAO's seasons have distinctive names.

I wonder if Food Wars will fail harder than Lupin III did?

Again, I enjoy Lupin III, I love the quality of animation even if the style is retro, I enjoy the characters, it is a lot of fun to watch, but it is not what the audience is after.

At this point, I'm wondering about the Blade Runner anime, because I don't see much in the way of money (or a block) to premiere it on.

I can believe Food Wars is gonna be pushed later very soon. Not only because they're getting more new shows which will push it down.

H×H 186,000 115.53%
AVERAGE 273,200 26th of 26 💀

This is actually the 2nd-worst total viewers block average of all time. Only the Boruto marathon + Pop Team, Gundam IBO, and Jack last year was worse; even the Attack on Titan marathon bookended by DBZ Kai and Jack just barely edged this out. THIS is why My Hero Academia is moving to 3:30 and the Family Guy x2/DBS combo being restored.

The ESPN UFC match was an uncommon source of competition, but Live PD was in reruns, and it STILL beat [as]/Toonami in 18-49. In fact, this time Dragon Ball Super couldn't even hold a candle to it:

Spoiler

Live PD AC (Rewind) (R) (A&E, 8:00 PM, 60 min.) • 1.081 million viewers [#19] • 0.30 A18-49 [#10] • 0.38 A25-54 [#9]

*Result of an estimate

Still dead last for 2019, but there were actually still multiple non-marathon weeks that were much worse in terms of Adults 18-49 during last year's "all night" experiment, which proved that Toonami needs a comedy lead-in, and now it's been proven that Dragon Ball Super must come first. Too bad in only 14 weeks we're out of Dragon Ball Super premieres...

Toonami got these kinds of ratings just a year ago. The multiple-rerun shitcoms on Nick at Nite actually beat most shows on Toonami by nearly a 2-1 margin!

There IS good news though: for what it's worth, the average for the 1st half of 2019 has officially beaten the 2nd half of 2018:

All Toonami timeslots 7/7/18-12/30/18 average: 364,922 total viewers; 207,359 adults 18-49

All Toonami timeslots 1/5/19-6/30/19 average: 389,621 total viewers; 237,746 adults 18-49

So they're cool with 53 percent retention from AOT then? And that's a dub premiere.

Super should obviously lead any lineup, but they still need to prepare for the whole not having any DB on Toonami.

At some point, they'd need to actually spend money letting people know that Toonami is a thing that still exists.

They spent money to make and advertise two awful FLCL sequels that no one wanted or gave a crap about.

So they have some money, they just make poor decisions.

The problem with that is them telling people a lot of the shows exist tells people that the shows are on...demand.  And they watch them there and that does jack all for Toonami.  What’s the point of advertising MHA if people just watch it on Hulu?

Just don't mention the FLCL sequels. I think that's why the last promotional push (during last year's NBA playoffs) failed so hard.

This just in! Attack on Titan: Season 3 and Sword Art Online: Alicization DO have topical promos this week:

Though that one is strangely misleading--oh well; SAO is definitely right...

Ah, Quinella, still just as naked and arrogant as ever, just like our president. Well, not quite as naked in the case of the latter, thank God!

Happy 4th of July, everyone!!

I could see the former happening, but due to Togashi's endless hiatuses, probably not the latter. We might never get a conclusive ending to this current HxH arc without outside intervention.

More than anything, however, I want to see Toonami avoid diminishing returns and make a show out of something new... ideally a popular manga with untapped adaptation potential, and not the most obvious pick. So how about a Delicious in Dungeon anime?

I’m telling you guys, that PPV didn’t do Toonami any favors.

UFC is popular, but I just can't see an ESPN+ PPV doing quite as much damage as a regular ESPN bout, which is what we had last week.

However, since these days the Midnight Hour has been sub-300K for the past 2 weeks, over 300K at 1 AM would be a blessing.

But we're gonna be waiting until Wednesday to find out: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/ratings-delays-due-to-independence-day-3.html

Thought Family Guy leading-in to Dragon Ball Super once again would help Toonami's ratings? THINK AGAIN! And it's such a shame because I think that episode was from 2013 or something, so it was fairly fresh. Even dumber is the fact that we're losing Family Guy completely to Freeform next year. I can't believe Attack on Titan dropped the ball from #5 all the way to #46, and NOT EVEN HALF the viewers 18-49! About half the total viewers too. Sword Art Online: Alicization DID recover slightly from there. But what about Lupin, Food Wars!, Boruto, and Gundam? Well:

57 LUPIN THE 3RD: PART 5 ADULT SWIM 12:30 AM 30 0.09 165
62 MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM:RED CM ADULT SWIM 3:00 AM 30 0.09 154
64 FOOD WARS ADULT SWIM 1:00 AM 30 0.09 155

Gundam beat food wars in 18-49, LMAO! But all 3 shows couldn't even muster a full 0.1 in Adults 18-49. And I'm not sure if Boruto just did so badly it didn't make the Top 150, or if it simply wasn't included because of a mistake this time. This is indubitably Toonami's worst week yet in its existence. It HAS to go up from here, right?? Will Toonami's summer of pain continue? No major UFC event this week, but Live PD is back from break, so I guess it's out of the frying pan, and into the fire...

Gundam bested Food Wars and that’s an OVA that was available for a year on Hulu.  Damn good one, a tale of political intrigue and personal tragedy, but one that makes you ask “what happens next”?  And I think the series will say “To be continued, in 2021 at a theatre near you!”

LA Gundam billion dollar box office imminent.

Certainly MHA at 10:30 for seven more weeks would have been fine. But honestly their first misstep was moving Boruto from its 11:30 slot.

Looking at the numbers, damn, you may be right! Boruto was CONSISTENTLY over 500K from January to March, and then when they moved it down on April 13th, MHA did well for a while, but it fell below 500K on April 27th for the first time and couldn't get back over 600K. Then AOT, despite its hype, couldn't get above 500K, though it was admittedly hamstrung by the weaker lead-in from MHA and DBS. In fact, this is what I would prescribe for July 20th and after:

11 PM DBS
11:30 Boruto
12 AM AOT
12:30 MHA
1 AM Black Clover
1:30 Gundam
2 AM Lupin III Part 5
2:30 Food Wars
3 AM Shippuden

Oh yeah, Gundam's future on Toonami and in the U.S. is bright! And it's weird that I'm using a 3 AM timeslot rated just above 150K and a 0.09 as evidence of that, but here we are. Perhaps this Gundam LA will be accompanied by a co-produced remake of the original Mobile Suit Gundam with the animation style of Gundam: The Origin! That would be a winning formula for synergy!

We have an update, and the non-reported shows did better, making Gundam the lowest timeslot on Toonami, at least in terms of total viewers, but fortunately NOT the lowest on [as], as Gemusetto Machu Picchu actually did worse:

"DRAGON BALL at 0.25 and 0.07/172K & 0.06/156K, compared to last week’s 0.27 and 0.08/249K & 0.09/253K, ATTACK ON TITAN down 0.03 to 0.12, SWORD ART ONLINE up 0.01 to 0.13, LUPIN THE 3RD down 0.03 to 0.09, FOOD WARS at 0.09, BLACK CLOVER up 0.01 to 0.11/186K, BORUTO up 0.02 to 0.11/197K, NARUTO up 0.01 to 0.09/162K, MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM at 0.09, MY HERO ACADEMIA (in a much later timeslot) down 0.12 to 0.09/201K, and GEMUSETTO MACHU PICCHU steady at 0.07/126K."

B. Clover 186,000 120.00%
Boruto 197,000 105.91%
Shippuden 162,000 82.23%
Gundam 154,000 95.06%
MHA 201,000 130.52%
AVERAGE 226,300 27th of 27 💀

Yes, folks. This is by far the worst ratings average a Toonami block has had yet. Reading between the lines, AOT was the worst retainer in 18-49, but Food Wars! was the turkey of the night, since even Gundam edged it out. These ratings make it clear. In the 7/20 re-shuffle, Black Clover and Boruto need a boost to the Midnight hour, or maybe MHA. Giving anything else a push would be like throwing pepperoni slices at the wall and hoping they stick. And as for the long-term? Hopefully Toonami learned their lesson from this and goes with marathons on 4th of July weekend from here on out, but since Saturday falls on the 4th, 3rd, and 2nd of July in 2020, 2021, and 2022 respectively, I doubt it will be much of an issue.
