Halloween 2017

Once again it is that time of the year. When the season of terror and chills comes about. Halloween!

Once again I am making my annual thread(probably for the last time)

Here you can discuss all things Halloween but primarily this is a place I use to list horror and Halloween movies for the full month of October.

I really enjoy this time of the year and all the movies and such on tv and I hope this makes it a bit easier to find things. This won't have everything for sure but it helps me and I hope others find something every day.

I'll once again be recommending movies to watch each day. Sometimes for the list of movies on tv but if nothing good is on then I'll just recommend something on my own.

I'll once again be doing the schedule from 6am until 6am. Marathons get broken up if I stop at midnight so I'll do it this way.

So let's get to it, time for spooky werewolves, vampires, ghosts, and zombies...

So is there something on October 1st? You'll find out soon.

AMC:

9:00pm: Fear the Walking Dead

TCM:

8:00pm: Dracula

9:30pm: Dracula's Daughter

11:00pm: Son of Dracula

11:30am: Scarecrow

1:30pm: Night of the Wild

11:00pm: The Cave

First day and we have TCM kicking off their month of monsters with Dracula movies. Each Sunday night in October they will be showing some Dracula films. In other places we have Syfy showing movies every day for the 31 days of Halloween and Disney starts out very small this year. My recommendation for tomorrow would be Dracula and Nosferatu. Great classics and a good way to start off this Halloween month.

Also I can't remember if this is the 10 year anniversary or 11. I know I made a monsterfest thread in my early years which evolved into this, but I don't remember if it evolved into this in my second year in 06 or third in 07. I'm not even sure when or how the schedule stuff started, I just started doing it randomly and it stuck...

For October 3rd we have a wonderful showing of horror classics from TCM. Honestly I recommend everything they are showing and everything else on this schedule is not important in comparison. These are on very early in the month after the showing of Dracula last night, this completes the Universal monsters for the most part. Enjoy these because I don't think they are back on TCM for the rest of the month at least not in this way.

whats a good scary movie for a 7 year old? i picked chuckie but i think that might be too much for her.

Hmm, Fright Night? Sleepy Hollow? Lots of classics without a lot of blood and gore, but probably a good chance they'd bore a 7 year old.

Or if ya want not really scary but fitting for Halloween and kid friendly: Hocus Pocus, The Monster Squad, Beetlejuice.

Do you want scary or just Halloween? If scary then well the movie will need to be scary and being scary it is meant to scare so anything along those lines can be seen as too much I guess. I know there are different levels of scare...It also depends on the child and what the child can handle. I could say maybe something classic like Dracula but to some that would be just boring or silly even. I could say sure go with Chucky. Some might see it as just enough but it could absolutely terrify others.Hard to answer really. I'd recommend something that could seem scary to a child but maybe also have enough fun that they can relate to. Possibly something like Monster Squad or even Hocus Pocus. They both have scary enough parts for young children but are not too scary overall. That's just my ideas. Go with what you think the child can handle. Remember that if you scare her too much you'll be the one up all night with her.

I did not even see that someone else had suggested Hocus Pocus and Monster Squad. Hadn't reached this page yet. Good to see I wasn't the only one thinking of those. i forgot about Beetlejuice, another good pick. Also the original Sleepy Hollow cartoon is a great pick. It is actually a bit scary to kids for sure. At least it was when I was a kid.

Well this sure is deja vu from previous years. Tomorrow is only syfy and disney. The choices are a bit limited. Bram Stoker's Dracula is nice but very early. The recommended movie for tomorrow is Saw. I am not a fan of the saw movies myself but Saw is associated with Halloween a lot.

If anyone has Showtime Beyond, MGM, or Sony channel, they're playing a bunch of horror movies.

I think we have Showtime Beyond, but we have to upgrade to a higher-priced plan in order to get MGM and the Sony channel. (We have AT&T u-verse.)

Well suddenly we have a bunch of stuff for tomorrow. Disney continues with a bunch of Halloween themed specials including a new Mickey Mouse special. FXM has ghosts and more ghosts. Syfy has a mix of things but a few werewolf movies tomorrow as well. Finally we have more of the Dracula marathon on Sundays on TCM. House Of Dracula is a nice horror monster mash up including many monsters such as Dracula and the Wolf Man to name a few. Also on TCM we have the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, a strange German expressionist film. Almost like being in a nightmare. Last of all on TCM we have a couple of Japanese horror films. These are not intended to be crazy and even funny like House is. So a lot to choose from tomorrow. The recommended movie is Paranormal Activity. If you are looking for something spooky with ghosts then look no further tomorrow.

8:00pm: Freddy's Dead the Final Nightmare

10:00pm: Trick 'r Treat

12:00am: A Nightmare on Elm Street 4

Tomorrow we once again have TCM with their classic horror lineup. Sundays are mainly Dracula movies while Tuesdays are classic horror in general. Cate People and the Body Snatcher are both nice movies. You cannot go wrong with Boris in the latter. I was debating which of the two to pick for the recommended movie tomorrow but then I saw Syfy's schedule. We have more Nightmare on Elm Street but also the film Trick 'r treat. This movie is Halloween. The background just oozes Halloween in every shot. The stories (there are 4 of them intertwined) are good too, pretty terrifying and overall an entertaining movie. I recommend this one highly if you haven't seen it. I was going to recommend it closer to Halloween but since it is on tomorrow go for it. It probably will be edited on TV though. Catch it that way if you must be if you can watch the whole version. Also what is this? I've recommended Syfy twice now....

There you have it, a schedule for today. Not too much going on. Some repeats on Syfy and TCM has a few more movies. The recommended movie for today is Beetlejuice. I don't think Freeform is showing it this year sadly but it is good all the same.

As I was saying yesterday, today's schedule is quite big. Friday the 13th will do that. Syfy as more vampires, while TCM has a mix of movies about kids and women with supernatural elements. AMC is essentially starting what was once called Fearfest(not sure if it still is) but they will be showing something horror related from now until Halloween starting with some Jason movies. Spike arrives onto the scene with a trio of good movies. I could recommend any of the three being shown. Especially the Shining though. Enjoy because this is probably the largest schedule for a while maybe even more so than this weekend.

A movie theater near me (actually the movie theater Lee Harvey Oswald hid in after killing Kennedy) is playing Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula along with a live ballet on Halloween.

I'm pretty stoked for it. Have no idea how they're going to incorporate the ballet thing but fuck it, baby.

I can't believe I forgot to check out El Rey channel's schedule until today.

6:00PM  The Texas Chainsaw Massacre(Dammit, it's the 2003 one)

8:00PM  Evil Dead

10:00PM  Evil Dead II

El Rey doesn't look like they have too much going on this year. I saw that and them replaying Wishmaster marathons.

For the latter half of our weekend Syfy once again has many movies and many of those are vampire based. Don't forget From Dusk Till Dawn. It is a fun movie for sure. Elsewhere AMC has a marathon of Fear the Walking Dead and once again since it is Sunday night TCM will have a couple of Dracula movies. I highly recommend Horror of Dracula with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing.

We are now half way through the month. For our Monday we have  the start of AMC's the Walking Dead marathon. I believe they will be showing all the episodes. Syfy will also be showing more mixed movies as well. TCM has a bunch of movies that I have never seen and I cannot tell you if they are worth watching or not. Overall an okay schedule for Monday. The recommended movie is Child's Play

I already fell asleep and missed the vampire movies, so I hope I can stay up for a while to watch Diabolique. The 50's one has been on my watchlist for years. Gaslight is a great movie but kinda rage-inducing because it is a very realistic abusive relationship, and I wanted to murder the husband soooo badly.

Tomorrow looks like a fun lineup on TCM. I haven't seen Ice Pirates since I was 6, so I don't remember how bad it was. I'm fixing that tomorrow because it looks cracky as fuck to adult me. Brainstorm is fun if you want to see a younger Christopher Walken, but I have no clue about the other TCM movies other than it being a scifi cheese fest.
